Getting to Know Andy Larson, Owner of Bowls Restaurant
1. Tell us about your business!
Bowls is a fast-casual restaurant in Walker's Point (in between Purple Door Ice Cream and Float Milwaukee). It specializes in fresh, delicious, globally-inspired meals all served in bowls. This includes smoothie bowls, grain bowls, and green (i.e. salad) bowls. I want people to know that it is possible to quickly get delicious, nourishing, high-quality, and fresh food that makes you feel good. That is what Bowls is all about. Before we came around there were very few options to get healthier food in a hurry.
2. When did you start your business and what drew you to Milwaukee?
Bowls opened in June of 2017. It is an idea I had back when I was researching Float in Portland, OR and ate my first ever acai bowl at a restaurant out there. Bowls is located in the same building and directly next to Float Milwaukee. My lease for Float had a first right to any space that opened in the building and it became a natural fit for Bowls when the space next door opened up.
3. Do you have a special connection to the Maryland Avenue Montessori School?
We have a 6th grader and a 1st grader at MAM. So we have been part of the school for going on ten years now. I have also previously been on the MAM Fund board for four years and volunteer with Springfest as much as I can. I also try to chaperone at least a couple field trips each year with our boys. Needless to say we are huge fans.
4. What is something about your work you are particularly proud of?
I am extremely proud of the high quality and delicious food we put out every day as well as the bright, clean atmosphere, and amazing customer service. This all comes not only from me, but from the amazing staff we have running the place every day. I am very lucky to have a group of wonderful people surrounding me.
5. Why did you choose to sponsor Maryland Avenue Montessori School's Springfest?
We have been part of MAM for almost ten years now. I've enjoyed being part of the MAM Fund board for several years in the past and have been part of the Springfest committee since well before it changed over from Novemberfest. We love the school and the community. And I love to support as many local causes as I can.
Thank you to Bowls for supporting Springfest! Bowls is our last sponsor spotlight feature for Springfest 2019. Each week leading up to the event, and now post event, we've shown a spotlight on one of our corporate sponsors, exploring their story within our community. We hope you've enjoyed getting to know these valued friends of Maryland Avenue Montessori.
The Maryland Avenue Montessori Fund is dedicated to enriching the education of children attending Maryland Avenue Montessori School by supporting projects and programs that enhance the educational community and support the mission of the school.
