Five Questions with Margaux Chandler,
Studio Owner & Instructor at Shred415
1. Tell us about your business!
Shred415 East Side is a boutique fitness studio specializing in dynamic interval training. The 4/15 stands for four fifteen minute segments, so the workout is one hour long. Two groups work at the same time - one group performs walking or running drills on Woodway treadmills while the other group performs strength based endurance exercises and cardio bursts on the floor. Lights are low, music is loud, and the pace is quick – so is the recovery, but there is no down time! We have full amenities like showers, lockers rooms, and complimentary sweat and bath towels. We also offer childcare for a low single drop in-rate, or through 5 or 10 drop-in packages!
2. When did you start SHRED415 and what drew you to the East Side as a location?
The Chandlers moved to the East Side from Chicago in 2017 to open Shred415 East Side. We love Wisconsin - I graduated from UW Madison in 2001, and have extended family there. We moved to Milwaukee not knowing anyone, and we are grateful for the connections and friends we’ve made in the neighborhood and throughout the community.
3. Do you have a special connection to the Maryland Avenue Montessori School or MPS?
I received a Montessori education, and my mom owned Montessori schools in Illinois for 30 years! We are huge believers in the curriculum and were thrilled to hear that MPS has eight public Montessori schools, one within walking distance of our home and our business.
4. What is something about your work you are particularly proud of?
Shred415 can provide people with things they cannot buy with money - things like joy, happiness, confidence, humor, laughter, pride, and strength, just to name a few. My personal journey from retail loss prevention professional to boutique fitness studio owner is a long one - to make the story short, Shred415 lifted me out of a depression I did not know I was in. Shred415 restored my emotional health, and improved physical strength followed. When I realized I had an opportunity to bring what I had found to a new community, I jumped on it immediately!
5. Why did you choose to sponsor Springfest?
Community is everything. We are so grateful for the community warmth we've experienced as new residents to the East Side. Our children are our future, and they are the future leaders of this community. What they can experience and learn today will influence what they will impact tomorrow, and we're thrilled to be able to support them today so that they can support us and others in the future!
Thank you to Margaux and to all our corporate sponsors for supporting Springfest! Each week leading up to the event, we will shine a spotlight on one of our corporate sponsors, exploring their story within our community. We hope you enjoy getting to know these valued friends of Maryland Avenue Montessori. If you haven't already, please check out their businesses!
