Today we send our warmest MAM thank you to Lisa Loesel of MKE Home Team, with First Weber, Inc. Lisa is a new MAM parent and first-time Springfest sponsor. Welcome to the family, Lisa! We are very grateful for your support!
Tell us about your business! What do you do, and what do you most want people to know about your company?
MKE Home Team, with First Weber, Inc. handles the buying, selling, and relocation needs of Milwaukee area residents. I started MKE Home Team after being in the real estate industry for seven years. My business was growing at a rapid pace and after becoming a mother, I wanted to make sure that my clients always had the best possible experience.
When did you start your business and what drew you to Milwaukee as a location? Do you have any other connections to the East Side?
I have lived on the East Side (Lavender Hill) since 2006 when I purchased my first home, a beautifully restored Victorian built by a German artist in 1894. I love the history and architectural uniqueness that you find in homes on the Ease Side. Looking at these houses never gets old, and it's why I chose to work here.

Do you have a special connection to the Maryland Avenue Montessori School or MPS?
My son started K3 last fall at Maryland. I toured a number of schools, but I knew after our first visit to MAM that this was the school I wanted him to go to.
What is something about your work you are particularly proud of?
I'm a single parent without a second parent or any family nearby. Being a full time parent and a full time business owner is very challenging. I'm constantly switching between these two roles. Despite making sure my son is a priority and gets as much of my time as he needs, I continue to substantially grow my business each year. Last year MKE Home Team helped over 50 families buy or sell homes.
Why did you choose to sponsor Maryland Avenue Montessori School's Springfest?
This is our first year at Maryland, and I would love to get more involved with school activities and continue to meet more parents. Right now my schedule doesn't allow for as much time commitment as I would like, but I thought sponsoring Springfest would be a fun way to get a little more involved.
A big MAM thank you goes out to Andy Larson of Float Milwaukee! Andy has been a longtime supporter of MAM, both as a parent volunteer and in running a big-hearted local business. Read on to learn more about Float and Andy's involvement with our school!
Five Questions with Andy Larson, Owner of Float Milwaukee
Tell us about your business!
Float is a high-end spa that offers floatation therapy. This involves floating in about 10 inches of skin-temperature water with approximately 1,000 pounds of dissolved Epson salt. This makes one float without any effort - to the point you can let every single muscle fully relax and even fall asleep while still floating. After a while one cannot feel the water and it seems as if one is suspended weightless in space. There is the option to turn off the light and/or music, which would result in total darkness and/or quiet as well. One can float in either a pod (which is oval and has a lid you can pull down) or a pool (which is round with no lid). The float itself is very similar in each room. Some of the main potential benefits of floating are:
-Relief from insomnia
-Relief from symptoms associated with PTSD,
anxiety, and/or depression
-Increased mental focus/concentration
-Faster recovery from soreness/injury
Floatation therapy can help improve a person's quality of life or mood. We have seen this used as a maintenance technique for chronic issues, or as needed for specific high stress scenarios, such as final exam week for students, before a big work presentation, times of family stress, or injury from an accident, etc.).
2. When did you start your business and what drew you to Milwaukee as a location?
Float Milwaukee opened in August of 2015. I love the feel of the Walker's Point neighborhood and the closeness to the East Side, Downtown, Bayview, and the Third Ward. It is also right off the highway and the building was a shell that I could use to build out the location from the ground up.
3. Do you have a special connection to the Maryland Avenue Montessori School?
We have a 7th grader and a 2nd grader at MAM. So we have been part of the school for going on ten years now. I have also previously been on the MAM Fund board for four years and volunteer with Springfest as much as I can. I also try to chaperone at least a couple field trips each year with our boys. Needless to say we are huge fans.
4. What is something about your work you are particularly proud of?
I am most proud of the effect floating has had on our customers. There is nothing like seeing the "after" when someone comes out from a float. They are often glowing and/or relieved (whether from pain, stress, exhaustion, etc.). I am also proud of the space we have that fosters a calming, relaxing, safe space for all, which allows customers to experience this. And I am extremely proud of the top notch customer service our amazing staff provides to all our customers.
5. Why did you choose to sponsor Maryland Avenue Montessori School's Springfest?
We love the school and the community. And I love to support as many local causes as I can.
